A practical selection guide
- Use a fast general model for drafting, summaries, brainstorming, and everyday questions.
- Use a reasoning-focused model for complex planning, analysis, math, and multi-step decisions.
- Use a coding-capable model for implementation, debugging, refactoring, and technical explanations.
- Use an image model when the required output is a generated or edited visual.
- Use Search or Research mode when freshness and verifiable sources matter more than model memory.
Model availability and supported controls can vary by plan. The picker shows the current capabilities available in your workspace.
Switch models deliberately
When changing models during a conversation, restate the key goal if the task is important. This gives the new model a clear instruction and reduces reliance on assumptions from earlier turns.
