The airline described the upcoming routes as exclusive services, suggesting they may connect cities that currently lack direct service from Taiwan. Expanding the Japan network has been a central part of Tigerair Taiwan’s growth strategy as demand for leisure travel between Taiwan and Japan continues to rise.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Taiwan–Okayama route, Tigerair Taiwan is introducing a special‑livery aircraft created in partnership with Okayama Prefecture. The plane will feature the legendary Japanese folk hero Momotaro (“Peach Boy”) in a collaborative design called the “Momotaro x Tigerair” commemorative aircraft.
The themed aircraft is scheduled to make its first flight on July 14, 2026, marking the milestone for the Okayama service.
The Okayama route has grown steadily since its launch in 2016. Initially operating three weekly flights, the service has expanded to include both Taipei and Kaohsiung departures with around 12 round‑trip flights per week today, reflecting strong demand for travel between the two regions.
The Momotaro plane is part of a broader marketing approach in which airlines collaborate with regional tourism authorities to highlight destinations. By incorporating local cultural icons and themes, airlines aim to strengthen brand recognition while encouraging tourism partnerships with specific cities or prefectures.
For Tigerair Taiwan, these collaborations help promote Japanese destinations directly to Taiwanese travelers while reinforcing the airline’s image as a specialist in Japan‑bound leisure travel.
Alongside route expansion, the airline introduced a new travel service called “虎加酒 tigertel.” The platform integrates flight and hotel booking into a single reservation system, allowing passengers to purchase bundled travel packages through one interface.
This type of integrated booking model is designed to streamline the travel planning process. Instead of booking flights and accommodation separately, travelers can arrange both elements of a trip through the same platform.
Tigerair Taiwan also plans to add an AI itinerary planning feature to the tigertel platform in the third quarter of 2026.
The AI tool will generate personalized travel suggestions based on a traveler’s destination and travel dates after they purchase a package through the platform. The goal is to reduce the amount of time travelers spend researching activities and organizing their schedules before a trip.
By combining booking, itinerary suggestions, and destination content in one system, the airline aims to deliver a more complete travel experience rather than just a flight ticket.
These initiatives were announced during Tigerair Taiwan’s 2026 strategic briefing, where the airline highlighted strong recent performance and emphasized continued expansion in popular leisure markets such as Japan and South Korea.
The combined approach—adding new routes, promoting destinations with themed aircraft, and introducing digital travel tools—shows how the airline is attempting to grow both its route network and its travel services ecosystem at the same time.
For travelers, the result could be more direct flight options to Japan and simpler trip planning tools starting in 2026.
