If GTA 6 is the game making your PS4 feel old, start with two practical questions: will the game be on PS4 at launch, and what happens to the PS4 library you already own? Current reporting puts Grand Theft Auto VI’s console launch on Nov. 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; PS4 is not among the currently named launch platforms [11][
16].
The platform reality: do not count on a PS4 launch
The safest plan is to treat GTA 6 as a PS5-era console launch. GTA BOOM says Nov. 19, 2026 is the console date currently being used and that the named launch platforms so far are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; GamesRadar also lists PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as confirmed platforms [11][
16].
That does not prove Rockstar will never announce another version, but it does mean PS4 owners should not build a launch-day plan around a PS4 copy. PC is not a confirmed day-one workaround either: GTA BOOM says Rockstar has not announced a PC release date or launch window [11].
Choose by discs first, then price
The biggest upgrade decision is not PS5 versus PS5 Pro. It is whether you still need a disc drive. Sony says PS4 game discs can be played on a PS5 console with a disc drive, while PS4 game discs cannot be used with the PS5 Digital Edition .
