Can You Use Claude Opus 4.7 Directly in Mainland China?

Model launch is not the same as regional availability

Claude Opus 4.7 is a real, officially released model. Anthropic’s launch page says Claude Opus 4.7 was released on April 16, 2026, and is “generally available.” Anthropic’s model documentation also lists Opus 4.7 and describes capabilities including a 1M-token context window, 128k maximum output tokens, and adaptive thinking.

But “generally available” is not the same as “available in every country or region.” For access from mainland China, the more relevant documents are Anthropic’s official Claude.ai supported-country pages, the API supported-regions page, and its commercial-access policy statements.

What the official sources show

Why “someone got it working” is not the same as official support

Reports of access through third-party mirrors, relay services, resold accounts, overseas entities, or other indirect routes do not change the official availability status. The official question is whether Anthropic itself lists mainland China as a supported location for Claude.ai or the Anthropic API. In the reviewed official lists, it does not.

That also matters for reliability. On September 4, 2025, Anthropic said its terms prohibit use of its services in certain regions because of legal, regulatory, and security risks, and discussed restrictions involving companies from unsupported regions including China. On February 23, 2026, Anthropic further stated that it does not currently offer commercial access to Claude in China and restricts related subsidiary access.

So a temporary login, a workaround, or a third-party access path should not be presented as “official direct access from mainland China.” The official record points the other way.

What this means for different users

For individual users: If your goal is to sign up for Claude.ai directly from mainland China and use Opus 4.7 with official support, the reviewed Claude.ai access lists do not provide that basis.

For developers: If your goal is to open an Anthropic API account directly from mainland China and call Opus 4.7 in a stable production workflow, the official API supported-regions page reviewed here does not list mainland China.

For companies and teams: If your concern is procurement, compliance, or long-term production use, Anthropic’s commercial-access position is the key point: the company has said it does not currently offer commercial access to Claude in China.

Bottom line

Claude Opus 4.7 has launched and is documented by Anthropic. But if the practical question is whether users in mainland China can directly register for Claude.ai or the Anthropic API and rely on official, stable access to Opus 4.7, the answer is: not currently supported.

More precisely, mainland China was not included in the official Anthropic API supported-regions page, Claude help-center access list, or Claude.ai supported-countries page reviewed for this article; Anthropic has also said it does not currently provide commercial Claude access in China and has tightened restrictions connected to unsupported regions.
