Singapore’s EV Licence Plate Poll: Three Designs and How Owners Can Vote

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are asking electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) owners to weigh in on a practical safety measure: licence plates that make those vehicles easier to identify. The agencies have shortlisted three designs and opened a poll running from 25 September to 9 October 2026. 13

Why identify EVs by their plates?

The proposed plates would help first responders and members of the public recognise an EV or PHEV quickly after a crash or fire. Knowing what type of vehicle is involved can help them respond appropriately, including by keeping clear of potential battery hazards. LTA and SCDF intend the differentiated plates to cover plug-in hybrids as well as fully electric vehicles. 110

The proposal also sits within Singapore’s wider shift toward cleaner-energy vehicles. From 2030, all new car registrations must be for cleaner-energy models, a category that includes electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell cars. That broader category should not be confused with the scope of this plate proposal, which LTA and SCDF describe as covering EVs and PHEVs. 123

How feedback shaped the three designs

LTA and SCDF consulted authorised motor dealers and signcraft workshops in March 2026 on three variations of a green design, and also received feedback from motorists. Some respondents objected to the appearance of the green options. The shortlist now retains one green design and adds two shades of blue. 110

Appearance was not the only consideration. The plate still needs to make its registration number easy to see. A suggested coloured side band, for example, would have required smaller lettering and would not work on two-line plates. The shortlisted blue options are intended to remain identifiable in daylight and low light while keeping the registration number readable by traffic and enforcement cameras. 1

How registered owners can vote

From 25 September through 9 October 2026, go to OneMotoring and use its EV identifier poll banner to open the FormSG poll. Sign in with Singpass, then select your preferred design from the three shortlisted options. 13

Only votes from registered EV or PHEV owners will be included in the final tally. The rule is one counted vote per individual or company—not one per vehicle. If an individual or company submits the poll more than once, only its last submission counts. A person who votes as an individual owner and on behalf of a company may cast one vote in each capacity. 1

LTA and SCDF say they will consider owners’ preferences when selecting the final design. The poll is therefore a chance to influence the choice, not a promise that the option with the most votes will automatically be adopted. 1
