Why GTA 6’s $399.99 Vice City Collection Is Drawing Criticism

Rockstar’s $399.99 Goodtime State – Vice City Collection is a box of 11 GTA 6-themed collectibles—not a game edition. The game is sold separately, making the lack of a copy the clearest reason fans have questioned the price. The set includes branded accessories such as Oakley sunglasses, but there’s no published breakdown showing how much each item contributes to the total.621

What’s in the Vice City Collection?

Rockstar’s store lists these 11 items:21

The poster features a Leonida map, while the rest of the set mixes apparel, accessories and in-world-inspired collectibles.2129

Why the price is controversial

The main issue is not simply that the box costs $399.99; it’s that the price buys merchandise only. Rockstar’s store says GTA 6 is sold separately, and reports on the announcement likewise note that the box contains neither the game nor a download code.621

The Oakley collaboration and other branded pieces may help make the set feel more premium than a box of paper collectibles. But that doesn’t establish their actual production costs or explain what share of the price they account for. Without item-level pricing, whether the collection is worth $400 depends on how much a buyer values the merchandise—not on a verifiable breakdown of its contents.721

The map poster is also a collectible, but the available details don’t establish whether it shows useful information beyond what players will encounter in the game. Its practical value is therefore uncertain; its confirmed inclusion is as a double-sided souvenir poster.21

How it differs from GTA 6’s Ultimate Edition

The Ultimate Edition is the more direct option for players who want the game bundled with extras: Rockstar confirms that it includes GTA 6, along with digital additions such as vehicles, weapons and cosmetic content.17 Reporting lists the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, compared with $399.99 for the merchandise box.1621

They serve different purposes. The Ultimate Edition is a game purchase with digital bonuses; the Vice City Collection is a separate physical merchandise set. Buying the box alone does not provide access to GTA 6.1721

Physical copy, pre-loading and other GTA 6 products

The reported physical version of GTA 6 will contain a download code in the box rather than a disc, and pre-loading is reported to begin November 12 ahead of the November 19, 2026 launch.15 That code-in-box version of the game is separate from the Vice City Collection, which does not include a code.615

Rockstar has also listed a separate 34-track official album for pre-order.18 Neither the album nor other products mentioned in coverage, such as limited-edition controllers, are listed among the Vice City Collection’s 11 contents.1421
