Tan Hee Teck to succeed Wong Kim Yin as Health Promotion Board chairman

Tan Hee Teck will take over as chairman of Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB) on 1 October 2026. The Ministry of Health says his appointment runs through 30 September 2029, while outgoing chairman Wong Kim Yin will retire from the board on 30 September 2026. 17

What experience does Tan bring?

Tan chairs NTUC Enterprise and is a former president of the Singapore National Employers Federation. He has served on HPB’s board since 1 April 2026 and previously led Resorts World Sentosa as chief executive. Those roles give him experience leading large organisations and working across the public and private sectors. 172830

That background is relevant to HPB’s broad remit, but it does not establish which programmes Tan will personally direct. Healthier SG focuses on preventive care and support for healthier lifestyles; HPB also offers activities designed for seniors and families under its age-wellness and Grow Well SG work. 74

What advanced during Wong’s chairmanship?

Wong became chairman on 1 April 2024. Reporting on the succession credits HPB under his leadership with advancing preventive care and children’s health programmes, and says the Healthy 365 app reached 900,000 monthly users. 1218

HPB’s work during that period also included efforts to encourage lower-sodium food choices, support people managing chronic conditions and make digital health programmes more accessible:

• Lower-sodium options: HPB continued to promote reduced salt use and lower-sodium alternatives, including through its Sodium Reduction Pledge. Its sodium-reduction goal was already set out in the 2023–24 annual report, so it should not be described as an initiative Wong originated. 110
• Chronic-condition support: From May 2024, LumiHealth offered 12-week hypertension and diabetes programmes using educational content and personalised challenges. HPB says more than 6,300 people participated in those programmes. 3
• Healthy 365: HPB continued to offer activity, healthy-eating and other lifestyle resources through the app. It also encouraged LumiHealth participants to use Healthy 365 when LumiHealth concluded in May 2026. 916

These are developments during Wong’s chairmanship, not evidence that he personally designed each measure. Tan’s appointment puts a leader with existing HPB board experience in the chair as that preventive-health work continues. 17
