The update is especially notable for retro fans because Ninja Gaiden III completes the classic NES trilogy. It also broadens the library with a run-and-gun shooter and a multiplayer-focused RC racing game. 4

The three new NES games
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom
Ninja Gaiden III is the third and final NES chapter in the series starring Ryu Hayabusa, the last member of the Dragon Clan. Ryu must defeat powerful enemies while investigating the circumstances surrounding Irene’s death. 2
The game continues the series’ action-platforming formula, with Ryu relying on his sword, acrobatic movement, and ninja abilities to progress through dangerous stages. The story also centers on Ryu being framed for a murder he did not commit, adding a pursuit-and-investigation thread to the platforming action. 4

Its addition means the original Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy is now available through Nintendo Switch Online’s classic-game service. 4

Ikari Warriors
Ikari Warriors is an action shooter in which players take control of Paul or Vince as they attempt to infiltrate and destroy an enemy nation. Its design combines constant combat with resource management: ammunition is limited, while dropped ammo and power-ups can help players stay in the fight. 2
The game also lets players commandeer vehicles, including tanks and helicopters. That gives the action a broader rhythm than a straightforward run-and-gun shooter, as players must balance movement, firepower, and the opportunities created by vehicle pickups. 2
R.C. Pro-Am II
R.C. Pro-Am II is a top-down RC racing sequel built around competition, track hazards, and vehicle upgrades. It supports up to two players and includes 24 tracks. 2
During races, players collect useful items, avoid obstacles that can cause crashes, and earn winnings that can be spent on upgrades at the R.C. Model Shop. The game also includes the Tug O’ Truck Challenge and Drag Race bonus events, giving players alternatives to its main racing format. 2
How Japan’s lineup differs
Japan received Ikari Warriors and the Japanese version of Ninja Gaiden III, known as Ninja Ryukenden III: Yomi no Hakobune. However, Japan received Dragon Buster in place of R.C. Pro-Am II. 8
That means the Western NES update and Japan’s Famicom update share two games but do not offer the same three-game lineup. 8

What you need to play
Access requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, a Nintendo Account, and the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Classics app. Nintendo says the app is available as a download for eligible members; the membership provides access to classic games from systems including NES, Super NES, and Game Boy. 2
The standard Nintendo Switch Online membership is sufficient for these NES additions; Nintendo’s announcement does not identify the Expansion Pack as a requirement. Qualifying new members can also use Nintendo’s seven-day trial. 2
As Nintendo continues expanding its subscription-based retro catalog, this update gives subscribers three distinctly different ways to play: story-driven action-platforming, resource-conscious shooting, and upgrade-focused racing. 2
