Hyundai's ambitions extend far beyond a single humanoid cameo. Under the global "Next Starts Now" campaign, Hyundai confirmed that both Atlas and Spot robots will be deployed at World Cup venues to enhance match operations, fan engagement, and safety .
The plan represents a significant expansion of Hyundai's 27-year FIFA partnership, which has historically focused on vehicle provision. For the 2026 tournament, Hyundai becomes the first and only official FIFA partner to provide robotics for tournament operations .
A specialist variant called "Security Spot" will serve as a four-legged patrol robot, supporting on-site security operations at tournament venues. The deployment is intended to contribute to a safer tournament environment, though Hyundai has not disclosed the exact number of units or specific venue assignments .
Atlas will appear in fan engagement settings, including experience zones, displays, and potential interactive demonstrations across host venues . Hyundai's marketing materials show the robot alongside soccer star Son Heung-min, who is serving as the campaign's global brand ambassador
.
Hyundai also launched a FIFA World Cup 2026 Display Theme for select vehicles in Korea, the United States, Canada, and Europe. Drivers will see animations of Atlas and Spot on digital clusters and infotainment screens, including during navigation and startup/shutdown sequences .
The campaign extends beyond stadiums, with youth football camps hosted in four U.S. cities: Atlanta, Miami, New Jersey, and Los Angeles .
The World Cup deployment comes just months after Atlas's public debut as a production-ready robot at CES 2026 in January. At that event, Boston Dynamics unveiled the product version of Atlas, featuring fully rotational joints, 56 degrees of freedom, human-scale hands with tactile sensing, and the ability to lift up to 50 kg (110 lbs) .
In February 2026, Boston Dynamics released a separate video showing Atlas performing consecutive cartwheels and backflips, demonstrating advanced full-body control and dynamic balance . The soccer training video from May represents a further shift toward perception-driven learning—watching and mimicking athletic movements rather than executing preprogrammed routines.
Hyundai has also outlined a longer commercial roadmap for Atlas that extends well beyond the World Cup. The robot is scheduled for deployment at Hyundai's Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia by 2028, starting with parts sequencing tasks. By 2030, applications are expected to expand to component assembly and other complex operations .
Taken together, the World Cup robotics deployment and the soccer training video represent Hyundai's most visible public demonstration of Atlas, blending marketing ambition with the company's broader push to commercialize humanoid robots across manufacturing and events.
