Google Launches Android 17: Gemini Omni for Video, Lyria 3 for Music, and App Bubbles Arrive on Pixel

Google has officially begun rolling out Android 17, prioritizing its Pixel line of devices in a launch that coincides with the June 2026 Pixel Feature Drop and the debut of Wear OS 7 . This update is a significant blend of generative AI, practical multitasking, and communication upgrades. The headliners are three new AI foundation models—Gemini Omni, Lyria 3, and AudioLM—but the update also rethinks how users interact with apps, share files, and record their screens.

The most substantial part of this release is the integration of Google's latest generative models directly into the Pixel experience.

Gemini Omni is a multimodal video generation model that lets users create and edit high-quality videos through natural conversation in the Gemini app. It can blend text prompts, images, and existing video clips, and even allows you to insert a custom AI avatar of yourself into the footage . This feature is currently exclusive to Gemini Pro subscribers .

Lyria 3 is a music generation model that transforms a text description or uploaded image into a fully customizable audio track. Users can adjust the style, vocals, and tempo of the generated music .

Multitasking: Floating App Bubbles

Android 17 introduces a new floating "Bubbles" system that lets users launch any app as a pop-up overlay, similar to the classic chat-heads feature. Apps can be opened over other content, then minimized into movable icon bubbles for fast recall .
