This AWS announcement is the latest pillar in a strategy that Workday has been publicly building since 2025. The goal is to turn Workday from a closed HR/finance application into an open data and governance hub for all enterprise AI.
For developers, the integration removes two of the biggest headaches in enterprise AI projects: slow data access and data misinterpretation. Instead of waiting for data extracts and building validation logic to ensure the AI doesn't make embarrassing mistakes with sensitive HR data, a developer can point an AWS Bedrock agent directly at the governed, live data stream.
The three capabilities hitting early access—Data Lake, Data Connect, and Live Data Query—cover the spectrum of needs from batch analytics to real-time operational queries. General availability for the AWS integration is planned for later in 2026, with additional features rolling out through early access programs over the next few quarters .
Workday's message at DevCon was unambiguous: the future of enterprise AI depends on agents that can safely act on people and money data. This AWS deal is the infrastructure to make that future possible.
