For users outside China, the most important detail is what Xiaomi has not confirmed: there is currently no official global beta schedule, stable-release date or complete international device list.

HyperOS 4 beta rollout timeline

Xiaomi is distributing the beta in three batches. The phased approach is intended to limit the initial test group and give the company more opportunities to address problems between releases.

What changes in HyperOS 4?

“Soft Light Glass” redesign

HyperOS 4’s most visible change is its “Soft Light Glass” design language. It uses translucent layers, lighting effects and fluid motion to create a softer, more dimensional interface. The style appears across the lock screen, home screen, notifications, Control Centre, widgets, folders and system apps.

The redesign is therefore broader than a single lock-screen effect. It is intended as a system-wide visual treatment, although the exact appearance and availability of individual effects may vary by device and build.

Dynamic Island-style notifications

HyperOS 4 also includes a Dynamic Island-style interactive status and notification area. It is designed to surface certain live information and system events in a more interactive format rather than leaving them only in the notification shade.

Reports also describe performance and AI-related changes, but the beta schedule and visual redesign are the clearest details currently established by the available reporting.

Is HyperOS 4 available globally?

Not yet, based on the published information. The announced beta is a mainland-China program aimed initially at recent Xiaomi and Redmi flagships and tablets. Xiaomi has not published a global beta schedule, stable-release date or confirmed international eligibility list.

The unofficial Xiaomi Mi 6 port

The HyperOS 4 beta has also attracted attention from independent developers. They reportedly managed to boot an experimental port on the Xiaomi Mi 6, a flagship originally released in 2017, and demonstrated features including Soft Light Glass and the Dynamic Island-style interface.

That experiment is technically notable, but it does not change Xiaomi’s official support position. The Mi 6 is not on the announced HyperOS 4 device list, and the port is not Xiaomi-supported software. It should be treated as a community demonstration rather than a stable update suitable for everyday use.

What to watch next

The next meaningful update will be Xiaomi’s international announcement. Until then, the confirmed picture is limited to the China beta: three rollout dates, 29 listed devices, a major visual redesign and selected interactive features. The Mi 6 port shows what an enthusiast community can achieve, but it is not evidence of broader official compatibility.
