The August 5–6 strikes occurred against the backdrop of a severe and worsening Russian fuel crisis driven by months of Ukrainian deep-strike campaigns:

• 43% of refining capacity knocked offline — Multiple major refineries (Syzran, Omsk, Saratov, Ryazan, etc.) have been partially or fully disabled since spring 2026 .
