Total Chaos VR Edition: Free Upgrade, Quest 3 Version, and a Full VR Redesign

Total Chaos VR Edition is an official virtual reality adaptation of the acclaimed psychological survival horror game Total Chaos, developed by Trigger Happy Interactive and published by Apogee Entertainment . It led the August 13 VR Games Showcase, which also featured major reveals like System Shock VR and High on Life VR .

Free for Steam Owners

Anyone who owns the flatscreen version of Total Chaos on Steam will receive the VR Edition as a free update at no extra cost when it launches . This makes the VR version a no-brainer for existing players.

Standalone Meta Quest Version

A standalone version is in development for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, available as a separate purchase through the Meta Horizon Store. Pricing has not yet been announced .

Redesigned for VR (Not a Direct Port)

The VR Edition has been built from the ground up for virtual reality rather than simply converting the flatscreen game . Key changes include:

• Reworked item locations and resource distribution to suit VR interactions .
• Rebalanced sections and revised encounters tailored to the immersive format .
• A physical backpack inventory system that replaces the flatscreen game's grid-based menu, with fewer total items but more thoughtful placement .
• The oppressive atmosphere and brutal combat of the original are preserved .

Origins: From DOOM II Mod to Standalone Hit

Total Chaos began nearly 20 years ago as an award-winning total conversion mod for DOOM II . It was later rebuilt into a full standalone title by developer Sam Prebble (studio name Trigger Happy Interactive), best known for creating the boomer shooter Turbo Overkill . Prebble also worked as a visual effects artist on major Hollywood films including Avatar, The Hobbit, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes .

Standard (Non-VR) Version Details

The flatscreen PC version of Total Chaos is available for $24.99 on Steam and has also launched on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 .
