2026 F1 Summer Shutdown: Dates, Banned Work, and Championship Battles at the Break

Each team chooses its own continuous 14-day shutdown window within July and/or August and submits it to the FIA before the season starts . The calendar naturally places most teams' shutdowns between the Hungary and Zandvoort rounds . For 2026, many teams shut their doors starting July 31 .

What Work Is Banned

The shutdown serves two primary purposes :

• Cost control — preventing a development arms race during the break that would favour richer teams
• Staff welfare — guaranteeing everyone in the paddock, from mechanics to engineers, a genuine uninterrupted rest in a sport that runs ~24 races across 9 months
