Amazon CloudWatch Omni: A Shared Workspace for Investigating Applications and AI Agents

Amazon CloudWatch Omni is an AI-powered observability experience for investigating applications and AI agents together. Introduced in an AWS blog post on September 22, 2026, and announced as generally available in an AWS update dated September 23, it moves the investigation toward a shared, application-centered workspace rather than separate views for each team or workload. 2317

How teams investigate together

Omni is organized around the teams responsible for applications. Colleagues can reach it through an organization-specific URL and sign in with existing identities without needing access to the AWS Management Console. AWS also describes auto-discovered application topology, natural-language queries and investigation guidance powered by AWS DevOps Agent. Those features are intended to help developers and operations staff work from the same picture of a problem. 2320

That shared view depends on the evidence available to it. Telemetry already sent to CloudWatch appears in Omni without reconfiguration, AWS says; other workloads instrumented with OpenTelemetry can send data to an OpenTelemetry Protocol endpoint. This provides a route to investigate systems beyond a single AWS account or cloud, but it does not make an uninstrumented service visible. 2317

What changes for generative AI workloads

An AI agent can return an answer even when its underlying workflow has taken an unexpected path. Omni’s agent-focused capabilities are designed to help teams trace behavior, evaluate output quality and troubleshoot the steps behind a result—not merely check whether a request completed. Reporting on the launch describes tools for tracing agent workflows, comparing prompts and assessing performance with built-in evaluators. 1824

Why the launch matters—and what remains unproven

New Relic’s 2026 Observability Forecast estimates that high-impact outages cost the businesses it surveyed an annualized $74 million, with a mean cost of $1.85 million per hour. It reports average detection and resolution times of 41 and 54 minutes, respectively. Those are survey findings, not estimates of what Omni will save. 33

The workload on responders is substantial, too: New Relic’s separate 2026 AI Impact Report says engineers spend 33% of their time firefighting or addressing disruptions. New Relic reports that users of its own AI-enhanced observability capabilities resolved incidents 25% faster than non-users; that comparison is not evidence that CloudWatch Omni will produce the same result. 86

The agent-monitoring gap makes the launch especially relevant. New Relic says 25% of organizations have deployed production AI agents without monitoring. Omni offers a way to put application health and agent behavior in the same investigation, but its value will depend on coverage, the quality of the telemetry and whether teams can turn that evidence into faster decisions. 3323
