Gemini Nano 4 support: the seven Android phones confirmed by Google

Google’s first confirmed Gemini Nano 4 device list is unusually narrow: seven phones, all launched within roughly the previous month. It includes Google’s four Pixel 11 models and Samsung’s three latest Galaxy Z foldables. 1311

That does not mean older Android flagships are no longer supported or updated. It does mean that Android software support and access to Google’s newest on-device AI models are becoming separate questions.

The seven phones on Google’s current Nano 4 list

The confirmed devices are:

• Google Pixel 11
• Google Pixel 11 Pro
• Google Pixel 11 Pro XL
• Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold
• Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8
• Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
• Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

Google’s developer documentation, as reported after the Pixel 11 launch, identifies these as the first devices supporting nano-v4. Samsung’s foldables were the first phones to ship with both Gemini Nano 4 and Gemini Intelligence, followed by the Pixel 11 family. 136

Launch timing explains the narrow list

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in late July 2026. 610 Google announced the Pixel 11 lineup in August 2026. 18 In other words, the seven listed phones were all very recent launches when Google’s support documentation was updated in late August. 14

The timing suggests that Nano 4 support is initially tied to new device integrations rather than being distributed simply through an Android version or security update.

What Gemini Nano 4 changes

Gemini Nano 4 is based on Google’s Gemma 4 family and is designed for on-device AI through Android’s AI Core. Google’s developer materials describe two variants: Nano 4 Fast, optimized for speed and lower latency, and Nano 4 Full, designed for higher-quality reasoning and more complex tasks. 3540

The model’s headline capabilities include:

• Native support for more than 140 languages.
• Understanding across text, images, and audio, rather than text alone.
• A claimed improvement of up to four times the speed of the previous generation.
• A claimed reduction of up to 60% in battery consumption for relevant workloads.

Those performance and efficiency figures are Google’s claims. They should not be treated as independent, device-to-device benchmark results, particularly because performance will vary by phone, model variant, and workload. 3547

The practical distinction is that Nano 4 is intended to make more capable AI processing possible locally on the phone. That can reduce the need to send every task to a cloud service, but the exact user-facing features still depend on Google, Android, and each phone maker’s integration.

Gemini Intelligence has a lower stated baseline than Nano 4

Gemini Nano 4 and Gemini Intelligence are related, but they are not interchangeable names for the same requirement.

Google’s current Gemini Intelligence documentation is reported to require at least a Nano model equivalent to Gemini Nano 3 and 12GB or more of RAM. Other reported qualification details include a suitable high-end system configuration and a long-term security-update commitment. 12

That distinction matters because a phone can meet the general Gemini Intelligence baseline without appearing on the Nano 4 list. The Galaxy Z8 foldables, for example, can receive Gemini Intelligence while the Nano 4 list remains limited to the newest Pixel and Samsung devices. Google has also described Gemini Intelligence as a phased rollout. 320

The safest reading is therefore:

• Gemini Intelligence eligibility is broader than Nano 4 eligibility.
• Nano 4 support is currently limited to seven specifically qualified phones.
• Meeting the RAM and Nano-version floor does not automatically guarantee every Nano 4 feature or model variant.

Pixel 11 still gets the most visible Gemini features first

The Pixel 11 launch gives Google’s phones a feature lead even though Samsung’s foldables also ship with Nano 4.

Rambler in Gboard

Rambler is designed for natural speech rather than carefully dictated sentences. It can turn spoken thoughts—including filler words, repetitions, and self-corrections—into cleaner written text. Google has highlighted Rambler among the features arriving first on Pixel, while its Gemini 3.5 Transcribe documentation describes the underlying transcription capability on Android. 1718

Create My Widget

Create My Widget is Google’s generative approach to Android widgets: users can describe the kind of widget they want and have Gemini help create a customizable result. The feature has been presented as part of the new Gemini Intelligence experience, although reports indicate that some of these capabilities were still rolling out or had not yet broadly launched. 820

More multistep actions across apps

Google says Gemini on Pixel can handle more multistep tasks across more than 40 apps. The Pixel announcement presents this expanded automation and other capabilities as features users will find first on Pixel. 18

“First on Pixel” is more precise than “permanently exclusive to Pixel.” Google’s public wording supports current Pixel priority and availability, but it does not establish that Rambler, Create My Widget, or every other feature can never reach Samsung or other qualifying Android phones. 1820

Why Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 are still on Nano 3

Google’s current documentation identifies the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 generation with Nano 3, while listing Nano 4 only for the seven newer devices. 31112

Google has not provided a public, phone-by-phone explanation showing that a particular Pixel 10 or Galaxy S26 lacks a specific processor unit, memory bandwidth, thermal capability, driver, or other component required by Nano 4. It would therefore be speculative to declare any one excluded flagship categorically incapable of running the model.

The firmer conclusion is narrower: Nano 4 support requires a device integration and validation path that Google has not extended to those models. A phone can remain current on Android and security patches, meet the general Gemini Intelligence floor, and still remain on Nano 3.

The emerging two-tier definition of Android support

The seven-phone list highlights a growing divide between two kinds of support:

1. Maintenance support: operating-system updates, security patches, and continued app compatibility.
2. AI capability support: access to newer local models, AI Core integrations, and hardware-dependent Gemini features.

The first can continue for years after a phone launches. The second may be restricted to newer devices because local AI depends on a combination of model compatibility, memory, accelerator performance, power limits, drivers, and Google or OEM validation. The available documentation does not assign a single technical reason to every excluded phone, but the support pattern is clear: software updates alone no longer guarantee access to the newest on-device AI model. 123

For buyers, that makes the model name and feature list more important than the Android version alone. A recently updated phone may still offer Gemini services and Nano 3-powered functions, while the newest Nano 4 experiences remain concentrated on a small group of current-generation devices.
