Bethesda has officially named its long-awaited Skyrim follow-up The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The November 3, 2026 reveal, part of the studio’s 40th-anniversary video, arrived more than eight years after the game was first announced at E3 2018. It confirmed the title and showed a teaser, but not gameplay or a release date.

What the teaser suggests about Sentinel
The name Sentinel refers to a city in Hammerfell, and the teaser’s accompanying text names Hammerfell directly. Together, those clues point strongly to the province as the game’s setting, though the reveal is not a detailed confirmation of the game’s map or story.

The text shown with the teaser reads: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” It is attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, and dated 4E 206.

The date is a clue, not a confirmed game timeline
Skyrim is set in 4E 201, so the teaser’s 4E 206 date is five years later. But the date belongs to Yazar’s quoted passage; by itself, it does not establish when every event in Sentinel takes place.

The wording about a scroll, a lost future and an undone victory hints at prophecy or visions, and may signal that the Elder Scrolls themselves matter to the story. That remains an interpretation of a brief teaser—not a confirmed plot summary.

The title was foreshadowed before the reveal
Before Bethesda confirmed the name, journalist Tom Warren reported that the game would be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
5 Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had also teased the title by writing “The Elder Scrolls VI:” followed by eight asterisks. The eight-letter word Sentinel fits that clue, but the tease was not official confirmation at the time.

What Bethesda has not confirmed
The announcement did not include gameplay footage or a release date. Bethesda said it would be some time before it was ready to share more, so the title reveal should not be read as a sign that launch is imminent.

The cited coverage also leaves the platform lineup unresolved, including whether the game will come to PlayStation. Xbox ownership alone does not confirm that Sentinel will be exclusive.
