Kingdom Hearts IV at D23 2026: Everything Announced

After years of near-silence, Square Enix and Disney delivered the biggest Kingdom Hearts IV update to date across two D23 2026 events: the Disney Entertainment Showcase on August 14 and the "Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts" panel on August 15. Here is everything announced, from the release window and the first confirmed world to a new anime series and the directors' unusually blunt vow against delays.

Launch Window: Late 2027

Square Enix gave Kingdom Hearts IV its first official release window: late 2027 . The game will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store) .

Directors' Promise: No Delays

Both co-director Tai Yasue and series creator Tetsuya Nomura took the stage at the Saturday panel to directly address fan skepticism about the schedule.

Yasue told the audience: "I can confidently say and promise that it will launch in 2027. Schedule wise, development is very smooth. It's not like an 80% thing, 90% thing, it's a 100% thing" . Nomura went even further, saying: "Online, some people were saying the release date may get pushed back. I want to set the record straight: that is not happening" . He called the late-2027 launch a "100% thing" .

First Revealed World: Pixar's Coco

The first Disney/Pixar world confirmed for Kingdom Hearts IV is Pixar's Coco, where Sora will explore the Land of the Dead . A brief "Wolverine sizzle reel" also teased that a Marvel world (likely involving Wolverine) is in development, though no further details were given .

Trailers: 90-Second Showcase and 4-Minute Deep Dive

Two trailers premiered during D23:

• A 90-second showcase trailer aired during the Disney Entertainment Showcase on Friday, August 14, showing Sora in the Coco world .
• An extended four-minute "Deep Dive" trailer was shown during the Saturday panel, expanding on the same footage with more gameplay and story context .

New Anime Series Greenlit

Disney officially greenlit a Kingdom Hearts anime series for Disney Channel and Disney+ .
