Qualcomm’s Snapdragon PC Push Expands to Googlebooks, Surface and Linux

Qualcomm’s second-day PC keynote at Snapdragon Summit 2026, held September 23, tied several announcements to one strategy: put Snapdragon in more kinds of computers and make those devices more useful for AI-assisted work.152 The hardware is concrete; the vision of agents completing complex tasks locally is still a direction, not a guarantee that every feature works offline.224

Snapdragon Googlebooks: Dell and HP lead the PC story

Dell’s 13-inch XPS Googlebook and HP’s Googlebook 14 use Snapdragon X Elite. They are part of a five-brand Googlebook launch alongside models from Acer, ASUS and Lenovo; not every Googlebook uses a Snapdragon chip.132 HP describes its model as a thin, lightweight 14-inch laptop and rates it for up to 19 hours of battery life. Qualcomm uses broader “multi-day” language for Snapdragon Googlebooks. Both are company claims, not independently measured results.392

Googlebook pairs an Android foundation and access to Android apps with Gemini Intelligence.33 Qualcomm describes Gemini features that can suggest calendar actions and recall information from email, while emphasizing AI processing on the device.2 That emphasis should not be read as a promise that all Gemini tasks run locally or without a connection.224

Preorders were already open before the keynote: they began September 21, with Google listing October 4 for devices to reach shelves.3238 US launch prices across the five brands run from $899 to $1,299.32 Google says eligible purchases include 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage. For developers, it identifies Antigravity and a terminal environment as tools for building and testing agent-based applications on a Googlebook.3846

Microsoft refreshes its smaller Surface PCs

Microsoft introduced a Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, both powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus. The Pro starts at $1,149.99 according to Microsoft; reporting lists the Laptop from $1,199.99. Availability begins October 13 in select markets.414 Reports also describe 16GB or 24GB memory configurations and an optional 5G Surface Pro model.56

Microsoft says the refreshed Surface Pro has a 25% brighter, 500-nit PixelSense touchscreen.4 AI-speed and battery-life figures should be treated as product claims rather than comparative test results. In particular, the supplied reports do not establish the proposed 80% faster local inference figure or a reliable performance comparison with an M5 MacBook Air.47

Linux and personal AI: the next steps, not finished capabilities

Qualcomm is extending its PC plans beyond Windows and Googlebook to Linux on Snapdragon X2. Reported targets are foundational Debian support by the end of 2026 and Canonical’s Ubuntu certification in the first half of 2027; HP, ASUS and HUMAIN are associated with planned Linux-compatible X2 devices.2552 An early developer preview is not the same as a broadly supported, ready-to-install laptop experience, and this X2 roadmap should not be assumed to fix Linux support on earlier X Elite machines.4850

The wider “personal AI” pitch reaches beyond PCs to devices such as smart glasses, with work divided among a device, a companion phone and cloud services where needed.2426 That is a more defensible reading than treating the summit as proof of fully offline agents across every device. An IDC account attributes a figure of more than 7,300 Windows-on-Snapdragon apps to a Qualcomm executive, but the supplied evidence does not substantiate the separate claims of 120-plus retail partners or 13,000 business deployments.23

The practical takeaway is platform breadth: Snapdragon now features in these Android-based Googlebooks and refreshed Windows Surface PCs, while official X2 Linux support is on the roadmap.1425 Actual battery life, AI speed and software compatibility will need to be judged device by device.
