Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will portray the lead character in PHYSINT, Kojima Productions’ upcoming action-espionage game. The announcement came during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, where Kojima also unveiled a new poster featuring Skarsgård and fellow cast member Charlee Fraser.

Kojima and Skarsgård begin a new collaboration
Kojima said he and Skarsgård have long admired each other’s work and are now embarking on the project together. Earlier in 2026, the team completed costume fittings, scans and camera tests with Skarsgård and Fraser—work Kojima said gave him “tremendous confidence” in the direction of the game.

Those production sessions suggest that performance-capture and character work are underway. However, Kojima Productions has not revealed the protagonist’s name, role in the story or any gameplay mechanics.
The PHYSINT cast so far
Skarsgård is the only actor explicitly confirmed as the game’s lead. The announced ensemble also includes:
- Charlee Fraser
- Don Lee
- Minami Hamabe
Kojima Productions says additional casting, talent scans and collaborations with outside creators are still in progress.

Kojima has called PHYSINT the culmination of more than 40 years of his career, saying it aims to redefine action-espionage without being constrained by established digital-entertainment genres.

How PHYSINT moved from PlayStation to Xbox
PHYSINT was originally partnered with PlayStation Studios. Kojima said PlayStation notified Kojima Productions in mid-June 2026 that it would cancel the project. His studio then spent three months seeking a new partner before reaching an agreement with Xbox.

Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the project, reported that PlayStation’s decision involved concerns about the budget, prospective profitability and exclusivity. PlayStation has not publicly laid out those reported business concerns as its full explanation for ending the partnership.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida reacted publicly with “びっくりしたなあ…,” which roughly translates as “That surprised me…”

Release date, platforms and budget are still unannounced
Neither Xbox nor Kojima Productions has announced a release date, launch window, budget, confirmed platforms or exclusivity arrangement for PHYSINT.

In May 2025, Kojima said the game would take another five or six years. Taken only as a broad estimate, that could point to 2030 or 2031—but it was not an official target, and it predates the change in publisher.

OD – KNOCK is back in performance capture
Kojima also shared an update on OD – KNOCK, the Xbox Game Studios horror project. He said performance capture and ADR recording—additional dialogue recording—had resumed after the SAG strike interruption, with production proceeding on schedule. No release date was announced.

For now, Skarsgård’s casting is the clearest new PHYSINT detail: the game has a confirmed lead, an expanding cast and a new publisher, while its story, systems, platforms and launch timing remain under wraps.
