AMD plans to bring machine-learning FSR 4 upscaling to APUs, gaming laptops and handhelds by the end of 2026, according to comments from graphics chief Jack Huynh at AMD Gamer Day in Seoul. The plan includes support for existing APUs as well as new products, but it does not yet specify which chips will qualify.

How AMD says FSR 4 will adapt to integrated graphics
Huynh said AMD is developing a lighter FSR 4 model for APU systems. The stated goal is to preserve image quality while keeping latency low—important targets for integrated graphics, which share a system’s power and computing resources. The reports describe AMD’s aims, not measured results from a released APU implementation.

The announcement is about upscaling: using machine learning to improve a game image from a lower-resolution render. It does not provide a separate timetable or technical details for frame generation, so the APU rollout should not be read as confirmation that every FSR or FSR Redstone feature is coming to those devices at the same time.
What is confirmed—and what remains open
The Elec reported two tracks: bringing FSR 4 to existing APUs and extending it to a new product line, alongside gaming laptops and handhelds. It interpreted Huynh’s remarks as pointing to a next-generation APU with FSR 4 support later in 2026. That interpretation is not the same as AMD confirming a specific APU, its specifications, or its graphics architecture.

The broader end-of-year APU timing is also reported by TechPowerUp, which says AMD plans to expand FSR 4 as it optimizes the software for integrated graphics. Neither report provides a final supported-device list or published image-quality and latency measurements for the lighter model.

How this compares with FSR 4.1 on Radeon cards
AMD’s current machine-learning FSR upscaling support is available on Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 series graphics cards. AMD lists RX 6000 support as launching in 2027; that planned discrete-GPU support does not establish compatibility for any particular APU.

Earlier reporting on the graphics-card rollout gives useful context, but not a guarantee for integrated graphics: Huynh’s May timetable placed RDNA 3 cards ahead of RDNA 2 cards, and AMD later released FSR Upscaling 4.1 for RX 7000-series cards. In June, reporting also described AMD developing lighter models for RDNA 3 APUs.

For APU owners, the practical takeaway is to wait for AMD’s product-specific compatibility details. A broad plan to expand support is not confirmation that every existing APU, laptop or handheld will receive it.
Su’s Seoul visit also included AI meetings
FSR was one part of AMD’s Seoul agenda. On October 7, Lisa Su met with Science and ICT Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung and Korean AI semiconductor and infrastructure companies, according to reporting from Aju Press.
37 Before the visit, the Seoul Economic Daily reported that a ministry-arranged meeting with AI accelerator startups—including FuriosaAI, Rebellions, DeepX, Mobilint and MangoBoost—was being coordinated for October 8. That report described the meeting as planned; it does not confirm that it took place.
