The map is massive—reported to be even larger than the original DMZ’s Al Mazrah—and mixes distinct biomes across South Korea, North Korea, and parts of Russia . Points of interest include a City, Casino, Fallout zone, Hospital, and a Military Airfield
. It is a volatile sandbox where the environment itself is a threat
.
You deploy into Hajin as an off-the-books, self-funded CIA asset. Your mission is to scavenge valuable military technology, data, and resources before successfully exfiltrating .
Each match drops 20 squads of up to three players into the zone. They face off against dynamic AI factions and rival operators. If you die, you lose everything you brought in and found that round. Extract successfully, and you keep your loot . The mode features three ways to play: narrative-driven Story Missions, randomly-generated Dynamic Operations, and simple Free Roam
.
Two new systems make Hajin feel unlike any previous Call of Duty map:
Between deployments, you return to your Forward Operating Base, a central hub for preparation, progression, and squad support . The FOB is where you turn the spoils of extraction into long-term power. Its confirmed stations include:
Persistence extends deeply into your characters. Your Active Duty operators now each have their own loadout, backpack, inventory, and a trait tree for role specialization . You can develop multiple separate operators with distinct builds—one for combat, one for stealth, one for support—creating real squad-based decision-making
.
Your overall DMZ Rank is the key to progression. Earning rank XP unlocks new FOB stations, upgrades existing ones, expands your stash capacity, and opens up new crafting recipes and vendor inventory .
DMZ’s PvP gets a formal structure through a new bounty system. When you eliminate other operators, an auto-escalating bounty can be placed on your head, marking you as a "wanted" target for bounty hunters across the map . Players can also use the Bounty Boards in the FOB to place hits on specific rivals
.
The return of proximity chat makes these encounters deeply unpredictable. Voice communication is distance-based, opening the door for organic negotiations, betrayals, uneasy alliances, or frantic coordination—all within earshot of anyone nearby .
DMZ is not a free-to-play standalone mode this time around. It launches as a core mode included with a Modern Warfare 4 purchase on October 23, 2026 .
