Wardogs is Bulkhead and Team17’s new large-scale tactical shooter, now available through Steam Early Access on PC. Its launch proposition is straightforward: pay $39.99 for an unfinished but playable 100-player FPS, then help shape it during a long development period before the planned console versions arrive in 2028.

Wardogs price, platforms and expected release path
The standard PC version launched on Steam on September 10, 2026 for $39.99 USD. Bulkhead has described that as an Early Access price and said pricing will rise as major content is added.

For now, Wardogs is PC-only. PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions are planned for 2028, and Bulkhead has said players can wishlist them on the respective console storefronts.

That console window has been presented alongside the game’s eventual 1.0 release plans, but players should treat the exact full-release date as a target rather than a guarantee: the Steam listing estimates Early Access will last roughly one to two years.

What kind of FPS is Wardogs?
At its core, Wardogs puts 100 players across three teams into a fight for a control zone. Matches combine conventional first-person gunplay with large maps, destructible environments, vehicles and construction. Squads can establish forward operating bases to fortify positions, while heavier equipment such as artillery vehicles can change how an area is contested.

Team coordination is central to the design. Players buy loadouts with in-game cash, and squads that control objectives and work together can build a stronger economic position than isolated players.
8
The result is positioned less as a purely individual shooter and more as an objective-led combined-arms game: infantry, drivers, builders and squads all contribute to taking and holding the zone.
A huge beta, but not a promise of permanent player counts
Bulkhead reported that nearly 500,000 unique players took part in the August closed beta. A subsequent pre-launch test reached a 245,118 concurrent-player peak on Steam after access was opened more broadly to stress-test the servers.

The studio has explicitly cautioned against reading that surge as a long-term baseline. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer said the team expects player numbers to fall as launch attention fades and plans to continue building toward 1.0 with a sustainable community.
34
That is the practical meaning of Wardogs’ Early Access model: the launch build represents the game’s core vision, but Bulkhead expects to iterate on it using player data and feedback rather than presenting it as finished.

Launch progression changes: a longer road to the big gear
Bulkhead changed the progression curve for the Early Access launch. Experience gains are slower through levels 10–20, while the curve is flattened from level 35 onward. The developer’s stated aim is for a median player with 20–25 hours of play time to sit around level 20, while high-value unlocks require significantly more commitment.
53
The key unlock changes are:
- Heavy Tank: now requires Driver level 35.
- Artillery: now requires Career level 90.
- Forward Operating Base: vendor price increased from $2,500 to $7,500.
- Large Hammer: vendor price increased from $1,600 to $2,400.

54
These changes make construction and powerful vehicles more consequential decisions within a match, while preventing players from reaching every top-tier unlock immediately.
Monetization and the 1.0 roadmap
Bulkhead says Wardogs will have no microtransactions during Early Access. The game instead uses an upfront premium price while it is developed.

The studio’s stated direction for the fuller release includes more maps, weapons, vehicles and deeper progression systems. Those additions are a key reason to view the current Steam version as an evolving live build rather than a complete release.

PC features and cloud streaming
On PC, Wardogs launched with support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex.
24
It is also available on GeForce NOW from its Early Access launch, offering a cloud-streaming option for players who own or access the supported Steam release.
19
The $100,000 clip competition
Bulkhead is also promoting a $100,000 community clip competition built around memorable in-game moments. The studio’s messaging has emphasized that the contest is not limited to professional creators or players with established audiences.

Should you buy Wardogs in Early Access?
Wardogs is aimed at players who want a large-scale tactical FPS now and are comfortable with a game that will change substantially before 1.0. The $39.99 entry price, no-microtransaction Early Access policy and unusually strong beta participation make it a notable launch—but its final content scope, balance and long-term player population will be determined over the coming development period.

Console players have a longer wait: PS5 and Xbox versions are planned for 2028, not the current Early Access launch.
