Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Demo: Platforms, Content, Save Transfer, and Release Date

GungHo Online Entertainment and Nihon Falcom have released a playable demo for The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter ahead of its September 17, 2026 worldwide launch. The demo is available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, and progress can be carried into the full game.

Where to play the demo

The demo is currently available on:

• PlayStation 5
• Nintendo Switch
• PC via Steam

There is no separate Nintendo Switch 2 demo. Instead, the Nintendo Switch demo runs on Switch 2 through backward compatibility.

The full game will launch on September 17, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

What the demo includes

Players can experience the story from “Prologue: A Maiden’s Resolve” through “Chapter I: Sneaking Shadows.” That gives the demo a substantial early section of the remake while stopping short of the wider campaign.

Most importantly for players planning to buy the full release, demo save data can be transferred to 2nd Chapter when it launches. You can therefore begin the sequel early without having to repeat the demo’s playable content.

The opening movie is also available

Alongside the playable demo, Falcom and GungHo released a newly rebuilt opening movie for the remake. It offers a separate way to revisit the game’s presentation without starting the demo itself.

Release-date exception for physical Switch editions

The worldwide digital release remains scheduled for September 17. However, physical editions for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in Europe and Australia have been delayed to September 29.

The delay does not affect:

• Digital editions in Europe and Australia
• PlayStation 5 physical or digital editions in those regions
• Physical Switch and Switch 2 editions outside Europe and Australia

The physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can also be played on the original Nintendo Switch. When used on the older console, it runs with the original Switch version’s resolution and frame rate.

How the remake fits into the series

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is a modern reimagining of Nihon Falcom’s 2006 RPG Trails in the Sky SC. It directly follows Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and continues Estelle and Joshua’s story.

Players who have completed 1st Chapter can also carry over clear data to unlock bonus items in 2nd Chapter. The predecessor is available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

A terminology update prepares 1st Chapter for the sequel

Ahead of the sequel’s release, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter received version 1.0.7, known as the “Legacy Patch.” The update aligns key English terminology, item names, and voiced pronunciations with other entries in the Trails series.

That makes the patch a useful pre-sequel update for returning players, particularly anyone who wants the terminology in both remakes to feel more consistent before starting 2nd Chapter.
