Three cosmetics are the physical edition’s key extra

The cartridge version includes three outfits for the player character: the Rain Hat, Raincoat and Sheep Mask. Retail information says these cosmetics are exclusive to the physical edition for the first 12 months following release.

That makes the physical copy more than a different way to buy the game for collectors, although the available information does not establish whether the cosmetics will become available through another route after that 12-month period.

How the physical and digital versions compare

The digital Human Fall Flat Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launched on March 19, 2026. The standalone digital version is listed at $19.99 in the U.S., while owners of the original Nintendo Switch version can purchase an upgrade for $4.99.

The Switch 2 Edition includes more than 30 levels and adds five levels previously unavailable on the original Switch: Dockyard, Museum, Hike, Candyland and Test Chamber.

Both versions are Switch 2 editions of the same physics-based puzzle platformer. Nintendo lists solo play and online multiplayer for up to eight players.

Which version makes more sense?

The digital version is the lower-cost option, particularly for someone who already owns the original Switch release and qualifies for the $4.99 upgrade. It also provides the full Switch 2 content, including the five additional levels highlighted at launch.

The physical version is aimed at collectors and players who prefer a cartridge. Its higher reported price buys a boxed release and three time-limited physical-edition cosmetics. The available packaging report indicates that the cartridge includes the relevant Switch 2 upgrade content, but buyers should confirm the final product details with their retailer before ordering.

Human Fall Flat remains a substantial Nintendo release for Curve Games and No Brakes Games: Curve said the game had reached 60 million players by July 2026. That figure is newer than the earlier claim of more than 55 million copies announced in 2025.
