Vietnam Airlines’ agreements with Visa and Amazon Web Services (AWS) point to a more connected journey—from booking and payment to loyalty benefits and services at the destination. Exchanged in New York on September 23, 2026, during To Lam’s U.S. visit, the two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) cover payments, travel, technology and data. They set out areas for cooperation rather than announce completed services.

What the Visa agreement means for Lotusmiles
Vietnam Airlines plans to develop Lotusmiles from a frequent-flyer program into a broader loyalty platform linked to travel, lifestyle services and a wider partner network. It also expects to build a range of co-branded cards for domestic and international markets. Those are plans under the new Visa agreement, not a published list of new partners or benefits already available to members.

The airline and Visa already have a payment product: Lotusmiles Pay, launched with ACB in 2025, combines membership and payment functions in credit- and debit-card versions. The September 2026 MoU should not be mistaken for that earlier launch.

Where AWS and AI fit
The airline presents its AWS cooperation as part of a wider digital-transformation and AI agenda. Its stated passenger-service focus spans booking, payment, earning benefits, airport and in-flight services, and the destination experience. Reporting also describes plans to bring AI and digital-payment capabilities into airline processes.

The available announcements do not establish which AI applications will be deployed in passenger service or operations, when they will launch, or what results they are expected to deliver. Specific uses such as automated customer support or predictive maintenance should therefore be treated as possibilities, not confirmed features of the AWS MoU.

Sun Group and Visa: the destination side of the journey
In a separate September 23 partnership, Sun Group and Visa agreed to work on digital tourism, payments, customer experience and loyalty. Phu Quoc—set to host the APEC 2027 Economic Leaders’ Meeting—is a particular focus. The partnership pairs Sun Group’s tourism and hospitality businesses with Visa’s payment network and technology.

Visit Vietnam has an earlier history: Sun Group and Visa had already described cooperation on the tourism platform in 2025, and subsequent reporting says they expect to expand that work. The cited accounts do not, however, establish a timetable or locations for a new contactless-payment rollout in Phu Quoc under the September agreement.

Taken together, the airline and destination partnerships suggest a strategy of connecting flights, payments, loyalty and tourism services through relationships with U.S. technology companies. That is the direction indicated by the agreements—not proof that the systems are integrated today. Sun Group’s separate cooperation document with Marriott International, also aimed at APEC 2027 and Vietnam’s meetings market, underscores the event’s role in these tourism plans.
