Coinbase's path to the Launches tab was paved with two major infrastructure moves:
Vector acquisition (November 2025): Coinbase acquired Vector, a Solana-native on-chain trading platform built by Tensor, to bring its real-time asset discovery tools and ultra-fast execution infrastructure in-house . Coinbase said Vector's team and technology would accelerate its vision of enabling "lightning-fast" access to on-chain markets for its consumer trading arm
.
Jupiter integration (late 2025 – January 2026 rollout): Coinbase integrated Jupiter Exchange as the Solana DEX aggregation layer inside its app . This integration, rolling out from December 2025 and reaching full availability by late January 2026, gave Coinbase users access to millions of Solana-native tokens through Jupiter's order-routing engine
. The Jupiter deal was preceded by Coinbase first rolling out DEX trading for Base tokens in August 2025 and then expanding to Solana in December 2025
.
Earlier DEX foundation: Coinbase launched its broader in-app DEX capability in August 2025, starting with Base-native tokens , which laid the technical groundwork for the Launches tab.
The Launches tab requires users to create a self-custody wallet (Coinbase's self-custody wallet) to trade — trades do not settle through Coinbase's custodial exchange . The feature is not available in all locations
.
Users can sort/filter by these metrics to gauge a token's activity level before trading . The company has warned that these are highly volatile, unaudited tokens — Coinbase does not perform its standard due diligence on tokens in the Launches tab.
The Launches tab positions Coinbase as a direct competitor to standalone DeFi front-ends like Phantom Wallet and Jupiter's own interface by offering a familiar, regulated app environment for speculative on-chain trading .
