AMD plans to substantially increase chip supply in 2027 as demand for AI and other computing continues to outpace what it can deliver. During an October 6 visit to Taipei, CEO Lisa Su said AMD had already increased supply in 2026, but still needed more capacity—and was planning further ahead with its manufacturing partners.

Demand is still ahead of supply
Su described sustained demand for AMD chips, including CPUs and GPUs used in computing and AI workloads. Although AMD had increased its supply during 2026, demand remained higher than available output. The company’s stated response is to raise supply substantially in 2027.

The shortage is also shaping how far ahead AMD plans. Reporting from Su’s visit says AMD is working with partners on capacity three to five years out, rather than relying on a shorter planning horizon.

Taiwan partners are central to the expansion
Su’s Taipei meetings were part of AMD’s effort to coordinate production across its supply chain. Reports said she met with Acer, Asus, Foxconn and Quanta, and was scheduled to meet TSMC in Hsinchu. AMD is also working with TSMC and other manufacturing partners to expand capacity.

The investment plan is growing alongside those discussions. AMD’s previously announced $10 billion investment in Taiwan’s supply chain was progressing as planned, Su said, and the company intended to increase it further. She did not specify a new total or timeline for the additional investment.

CPU growth and Helios shipments add to the picture
Reporting from Taiwan said Su described especially strong growth in the CPU market and said AMD’s CPU supply was still below demand. The company is working with TSMC, back-end manufacturing and substrate partners to increase supply.

The same report said AMD’s Helios AI rack platform began shipping in the third quarter as planned, with shipments expected to grow over the following quarters.

Taken together, Su’s comments point to a supply-chain expansion, not simply a production target: AMD is seeking more capacity across partners while extending its planning horizon as demand grows. The company has not disclosed the revised Taiwan investment figure, and its 2027 supply increase does not mean demand will immediately be fully met.
