Ukraine and Russia Trade Deadly Strikes: Wildberries Hit in Yekaterinburg, 14 Oil Refineries Targeted

"Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine's oil and gas production sector in an attempt to inflict maximum damage on our infrastructure ahead of winter. Last night saw the largest attack on Ukrnafta facilities in recent months. Fortunately, no one was injured," said acting Naftogaz CEO Serhii Fedorenko .

Fuel storage struck at the port of Pivdennyi

In earlier July strikes, Russia hit infrastructure at ports in Odesa and Pivdennyi, including fuel storage and loading/unloading facilities, as well as a maritime vessel . Russia's Defence Ministry said air-launched missiles and strike drones had struck the ports of Odesa, Izmail and Mykolaiv as part of a campaign of heavy strikes against Ukraine .

Wildberries logistics facility in Yekaterinburg

On the morning of August 7, Ukrainian Liutyi attack drones struck a Wildberries logistics hub in Yekaterinburg, roughly 2,000 km (1,080 miles) from the front line . The attack was part of a broader campaign targeting the Russian online retailer's warehouses, which Ukraine says support Russia's war effort.

Acting Sverdlovsk region Governor Denis Pasler said air defense forces shot down eight drones over the region, three of which crashed onto the roof of the facility . Wildberries confirmed that a fire broke out at the logistics center but said firefighters had since contained the blaze . Around 800 people were evacuated from the facility .

Earlier strikes had hit Wildberries sites in Samara, Krasnodar, and Stavropol regions . Since July 2026, Ukraine has conducted waves of drone strikes into Russia targeting Wildberries warehouses, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said were aimed at eliminating "logistics centers involved in supplying the Russian army with drone components, navigation equipment, and other military hardware" .

The broader 40-day SBU campaign

President Zelenskyy approved a 40-day influence operation by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) on June 25, 2026 . The goal was to "exert pressure on the aggressor nation with the goal of urging an end to the conflict" .

By early August, the SBU reported over 100 successful strikes on strategic Russian facilities . According to Ukrainian reports, this campaign has hit:

• 14 oil refineries
• Several oil depots and loading terminals
• 14 aircraft (including at military airfields)
• 4 airfields

Additional targets included air defense systems, command posts, warships, tankers, and defense industrial base enterprises . The Institute for the Study of War assessed that the campaign aimed to "increase the cost to Russian President Vladimir Putin of continuing to wage war on Ukraine" .

The campaign combined long-range strikes deep inside Russia with frontline operations, targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, air bases, air defense assets, command posts, warships and tankers of the shadow fleet, oil refineries, and transport and military logistics facilities . One of the main directions was attacks on Russian aviation infrastructure, including strikes on airfields such as Saky, Hvardiyske, Belbek, Bagerovye, Engels, and Khanskaya .
