Why This Release Matters for the Franchise

The Sequel Finally Comes to Nintendo

The original Jurassic World Evolution never hit the original Switch at launch. It arrived as a Complete Edition in November 2020, over two years after its console debut . The sequel, Jurassic World Evolution 2, skipped the original Switch entirely. Frontier previously stated they had "no plans for a Nintendo Switch release" . The Switch 2 version marks the franchise's first opportunity for the sequel on a Nintendo system.

Before Jurassic World Evolution 3

Jurassic World Evolution 3 has been announced or is in development by Frontier, but no release date or platform details have been confirmed. This Switch 2 edition may serve as a reintroduction to the franchise on Nintendo hardware ahead of a potential cross-platform launch for the third installment.

A Proven Pattern

The first game's Switch Complete Edition sold well, and this release mirrors that strategy — delivering all DLC day-one for a platform that missed the original launch window .

Watch Out: Backward Compatibility Trouble with the Original Game

This release comes with an important caveat for anyone who owns the original Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition and hoped to play it on Switch 2 through backward compatibility. The original game has documented problems:

• Nintendo's official eShop listing marks the original Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition as "Unsupported" on Switch 2, citing "problems with game progression" .
• Players report that when running the original Switch version on Switch 2, it runs smoother but the display is blurry and oversaturated, especially the grass terrain — described as looking "almost like a fauvism painting" .
• Reddit users have flagged widespread graphical oddities and visual effects issues with the first game on Switch 2, though some hope a Nintendo firmware update might address them .
• These problems stem from GPU and hardware differences between the original Switch and Switch 2, which affect how some original Switch titles are rendered .

Some players have discovered a workaround: switching the in-game color scheme to "Jurassic Park Original" and then back to "Default" can temporarily fix color issues, though the game remains blurry, especially in handheld mode .

Important note: These backward compatibility issues apply only to the first JWE game. The new Jurassic World Evolution 2: Complete Edition is a native Switch 2 release, so it should not suffer from these emulation-related problems — but its visual and performance quality on Switch 2 has not yet been independently reviewed.
