This feature isn't limited to a single entry point. It surfaces in the new Siri mode within the Camera app, inside the Wallet app, and also within Messages. In Wallet, the flow presents two clear options to users: request payment from others for the items they ordered, or pay your own share to the person who covered the tab .
For years, the Wallet has accepted passes only from specifically integrated third-party apps. Many gyms, small retailers, and local event spaces couldn't offer a digital version of their membership cards. In iOS 27, Apple is putting that power into the user's hands with a feature called "Create a Pass" .
By tapping the "+" button inside the Wallet app, users are presented with two distinct methods to create a pass :
Under the hood, Apple is expanding the types of barcodes the Wallet can support, adding EAN-13, Code 39, Codabar, and Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF) to the developer framework. This broadens the compatibility for older and less common card types .
Digital hotel keys have existed in Wallet since iOS 15, but adoption has been limited to a handful of chains like Hyatt . With iOS 27, Apple is working with more access-platform providers to increase support. Smart-access company Salto announced that its hospitality platform will now work with Room Keys in Apple Wallet, meaning the feature will expand to a wider selection of hotels and resorts
.
Guests at participating properties receive a digital key after booking via the hotel's app by tapping the "Add to Apple Wallet" button. Once the key is stored, they can bypass the front desk and go straight to their room, holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near the NFC door reader to enter. Keys also provide access to shared amenities like pools, gyms, and business centers, and can be revoked upon checkout .
Beyond the major additions, iOS 27 includes several usability and design upgrades to the Wallet and Apple Pay experience :
iOS 27 was announced on June 8, 2026, with the first developer beta (build 24A5355q) launching the same day . The public beta will be available in July through the Apple Beta Software Program. Apple has confirmed the free final software update will roll out to all compatible iPhones in the fall, with historical release patterns pointing to a mid-September date, specifically around the week of September 14
.
