Timeline and investment

The A14 hub — designated Fab 25 — will eventually include four separate 1.4nm fabs on the Taichung site . Construction has already accelerated.

The CTSP Administration Director confirmed on July 29, 2026, that construction is running ahead of its original schedule .

• Initial investment: The first phase is reported at approximately US$48.5–49 billion (roughly NT$1.6 trillion), covering land, buildings, and initial tooling .

Performance improvements: A14 vs. N2

These figures were confirmed at TSMC's 2025 North American Technology Symposium and reiterated in mid-2026 earnings updates :

• Speed: Up to 15% faster at the same power (iso-power) .
• Power consumption: Up to 30% lower power at the same frequency (iso-performance) .
• Logic density: Approximately 20% higher transistor density for logic blocks .

The A14 node uses second-generation gate-all-around (GAA) nanosheet transistors, a full-node evolution from N2. A version with backside power delivery (A14P) is expected later in the node's lifecycle .

Expected wafer costs — the $45,000 question

• Estimated price: Around US$45,000 per 300mm wafer — roughly a 50% increase over the ~US$30,000 reported for N2 wafers .
• TSMC does not publicly disclose wafer pricing; these figures are analyst estimates and supply-chain reports .
• At ~$45K/wafer, A14 wafers would be among the most expensive mass-produced silicon ever, limiting access to TSMC's largest and most well-heeled customers .

Early customer commitments

TSMC has not published an official, confirmed customer list for A14. Supply-chain and media reports consistently name the following as likely early adopters :

• Apple is expected to be the lead customer, likely for next-generation iPhone and Mac application processors .
• NVIDIA is widely reported as a committed early customer for AI/HPC accelerators built on A14 .
• AMD and Qualcomm are also cited in supply-chain reports as engaged early partners for client and mobile products .

TSMC's management stated in July 2026 that there is "strong interest from AI/HPC and smartphone customers" and that A14's development is "well ahead of N2 at the same stage" .

Caveat: The named customers come from supply-chain and media reports, not from TSMC's own disclosures. Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm should be treated as reported but unconfirmed.
