Apple Wallet’s iOS 27 updates address two reasons people still reach for a physical wallet: a card or ticket that never had a Wallet version, and financial details scattered across payment accounts. The most practical changes are user-created passes and an Apple Card view for recurring charges. Neither makes every physical item or account replaceable.

Turn a physical card into a Wallet pass
In Wallet, tap + → Create a Pass to make a pass from a physical card or build one manually. The manual option offers Standard, Membership, and Event templates. That makes the feature useful for a gym membership, loyalty card, or ticket whose issuer does not offer a Wallet pass.

Apple’s support guidance also covers making passes from photos or screenshots containing a barcode or QR code. Scanning relies on supported Apple Intelligence capabilities; manual creation is a separate route. Once added, a pass can present its barcode or QR code from an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Behind the scenes, iOS 27 adds support for EAN-13, Code 39, Codabar, and ITF barcodes in Wallet passes. Those formats give pass creators more ways to represent codes used by existing cards and ticketing systems.

Review recurring Apple Card charges
To find the new tracker, open Wallet → Apple Card → three-dot menu → Recurring. It brings upcoming recurring transactions together in a list or monthly calendar, making subscriptions and other repeating charges easier to spot before they appear on a statement. The dedicated view is exclusive to Apple Card, not a subscription tracker for every payment card saved in Wallet.

Treat upcoming entries as a planning aid rather than a guarantee of what will be charged. The available reporting does not establish exactly how Wallet predicts them or document a reliable procedure for correcting a transaction it has classified incorrectly.

Do more than store cards
Reporting on iOS 27 also describes AI-assisted restaurant-bill splitting from a receipt, with Apple Cash used for settlement, and richer digital hotel keys that can show trip details and updates at participating properties. Those features broaden Wallet’s role during a purchase or stay, but their usefulness depends on supported devices, services, and participating businesses.

For money management, Apple says connected debit or credit accounts can show balances, transaction history, and spending insights in Wallet. Reports also describe an Insights entry point for viewing information from connected accounts; beta coverage differed on how functional that experience was, so it should not be confused with the Apple Card–only Recurring view or assumed to work with every financial institution.

The direction is clear: custom passes reduce the cards and tickets people need to carry, while recurring-charge and account views make Wallet more useful after a payment is made. The remaining limits—particularly feature eligibility, account support, and merchant participation—matter more than any claim that the physical wallet is obsolete.
