IFA 2026 in Berlin was less a parade of standalone “AI products” than a demonstration of AI as connective tissue: software and agents intended to coordinate devices, rooms, displays, vehicles and, increasingly, robots. Held at Messe Berlin from September 4 to 8, the event brought together more than 1,900 brands from 49 countries.

Xiaomi turned its first IFA appearance into an ecosystem argument
Xiaomi made the most expansive case for this new model. Its first IFA booth covered more than 3,300 square metres—the company’s largest standalone overseas exhibition to date—and contained more than 380 products, technologies and demonstrations. The point was not any one handset or appliance; it was the breadth of a system Xiaomi calls Human × Car × Home.

HyperOS was positioned as the layer connecting personal devices, smart-home equipment and mobility. The company used home scenarios alongside the Xiaomi SU7 Max to show how those categories might work together, while its product portfolio extended across cooking and food storage, cleaning, air management, entertainment, security, personal devices and smart mobility.

That is why cars mattered at a consumer-electronics show. Xiaomi displayed three vehicles, including the Vision Gran Turismo concept, a new-generation SU7 and an SU7 Ultra, treating the vehicle as another endpoint in the same connected environment rather than a separate business.

The European introduction of Mijia and demonstrations involving robots broadened that pitch beyond phones. Xiaomi also said it expects to invest more than €24 billion globally in R&D between 2026 and 2030, spanning AI, operating systems, self-developed chips, smart cars, robotics and smart manufacturing. That is a stated investment plan, not a measure of current AI product adoption—but it signals that Xiaomi sees control of the underlying stack as central to its strategy.

TCL made the AI home a screen-led experience
TCL’s “AI Inspired Life” installation, called the Inspiration Habitat, connected large displays, mobile devices, AI-powered smart-home experiences, energy solutions and wearables. Its approach emphasized the interfaces through which people may encounter AI at home: screens, glasses and companion devices.

Together, the products suggested that the AI-home contest is not only about voice assistants or appliance automation. Display makers are also positioning televisions, phones and wearable screens as the places where AI-driven services will be seen and used.
Samsung and LG sold AI as a living environment
Samsung made a notable presentation change: instead of relying on a large booth at Messe Berlin, it opened Samsung Connect, a separate immersive venue at Humboldt Carré in central Berlin. The company framed the experience around “Companion to AI Living” and connected technology designed to make day-to-day experiences smarter and simpler.

The venue choice itself reinforced the industry’s preferred framing. Rather than placing AI in a product-specification checklist, Samsung presented it as an environment spanning appliances, services and energy management.

LG, meanwhile, introduced ThinQ Claw, a text-chat-based AI agent experience within its AI Home offering. LG says the technology is designed to converse with users, understand routines and situations, then propose or carry out relevant actions across connected appliances.

The compute and robotics layers were increasingly visible
IFA also showed that the consumer-AI story depends on infrastructure as well as devices. AMD’s opening keynote focused on Ryzen AI Max Pro 400 processors. AMD claimed a 50% improvement in large-language-model throughput over the preceding Max Pro 300 generation; the comparison is the company’s own specification.

Robotics offered the show’s most tangible illustration of AI moving beyond screens. IFA said humanoid robots would be shown at its largest scale yet, with companies including Unitree, AgiBot, DeepRobotics, MagicLab and Pudu Robotics participating. IFA Next was expected to host about 300 exhibitors, including companies focused on robotics, AI wearables and smart glasses.

What IFA 2026 said about the next phase of consumer AI
The clearest shift was strategic. At IFA, leading brands did not simply promise smarter individual devices. They tried to show the system around those devices:

That vision remains a promise rather than proof that consumers will adopt fully connected ecosystems. Interoperability, privacy, reliability and the practical usefulness of autonomous actions will determine whether these demonstrations become everyday products. But IFA 2026 made the competitive direction unmistakable: the next consumer-tech race is being defined less by a single AI feature than by who can make the most convincing connected life.
