How the 5500F made DDR5 avoidable
The 5500F did not lower the price of DDR5. Its value is that it lets an existing AM4 system continue using DDR4 instead of forcing an immediate platform migration.
For an owner of a supported AM4 board, a DDR4 kit, and a discrete GPU, the practical upgrade can be limited to the $99 processor—plus a BIOS update or cooler if needed. That is fundamentally different from an AM5 move, which requires both a new motherboard and DDR5 memory in addition to the CPU.
